BLACKWORK ETUI BOX

The Etui Box is for all levels of embroiderers. This kit has a 13 page Instruction Booklet (8 1/2 by 11 or A4 size sheets) with diagrams for the Blackwork stitches.

Working the embroidery: A thirteen page Instruction booklet guides you through each stitch with diagrams and concise instructions.

The four outside panels and the lid of the box are knot garden designs. The hedges of the knot gardens are worked in cross stitch, in-between the hedges different Blackwork patterns are embroidered. Included in the kit are 83 different Blackwork patterns to choose from and 16 different border designs that can be worked around the rim of the lid.

The Blackwork designs can be worked on 16 count aida or hardanger fabric or 32 count cotton or linen fabric, the inside panels of the box can be covered in a complimentary fabric. The Blackwork embroidery is worked in DMC floss in four shades but can also be worked in traditional black. The blackwork etui box kit comes with the panels already cut and padded with batting so you have no worries about purchasing the two thicknesses of board or the accurate cutting required to have a nice shaped box.

This Blackwork project is suitable for beginner to advanced embroiderers.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

BLACKWORK HORSE 1 MANGALARGA

The blackwork horse is a beginners embroidery kit.

The kit comes with a detailed instruction booklet with step by step graphs for working each pattern. There is also a large chart which the embroidery can be worked from.

Working the embroidery: The Blackwork embroidery can be worked within a tacked outline of the design using the variety of different Blackwork stitches provided or it can be worked directly from the chart, instructions for both methods are given in the instruction booklet.  The design is not worked as a two-sided piece of blackwork but as dimensional picture by changing the thickness of the thread and by reducing the stitches in the pattern. The Blackwork can also be worked from the chart in the same method as a cross-stitch design.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

There is a choice of three fabrics to work the blackwork design:

  1. The original embroidery is worked on 16 count heatherfield fabric which is 100% poly acrylic fabric, it is mottled grey with darker grey and gold flecks. It is a lovely natural looking fabric that compliments the variegated embroidery floss that is used to work the blackwork embroidery and is easy to count.

  2. The embroidery can also be worked on 32 count Belfast 100% Linen fabric which is a off-white colour fabric with uneven weave threads (different thicknesses) giving a natural look.

  3. Or 32 count Etamin 100% cotton fabric which is a off-white colour fabric with even weave threads (all threads are the same thickness) which is a nice soft fabric and is easier to see and count compared to the Belfast linen.

BLACKWORK HORSE 3 RUSSIAN TROTTER

The blackwork horse is a beginners embroidery kit.

At the moment I only have the Chart and embroidery supplies available for the Russian Trotter. I do not have instructions for the embroidery but it is worked with the same stitches as the Blackwork Horse 1 Mangalarga. What is the difference between Gilt and Gold 2% WM metal threads?

HAREBELL

The Harebell is an beginners to advanced metal thread technique, that can be worked in either gold 2%, gilt, silver or copper metal threads.

The instructions are detailed and concise, written with the beginner in mind and intended to guide embroiderers of any level through the embroidery from beginning to end. The fabric and felt padding comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design.

Working the embroidery: The flowers, buds and leaves are padded with felt. Over the top of the felt a variety of different metal threads are sewn down. In some areas blue embroidery floss will be used to couch down the gold, in others yellow sewing thread is used. The embroidery is worked on a cotton velveteen background in a choice of dark green, dark blue or black. Velveteen fabric is used as it has a deep pile which is good for giving the edges of the goldwork a neat finished look. The original embroidery was worked on a dark green velveteen fabric.

Scissors Case Design by Beppy Berlin, Center Border Motif from Fancy Work & Fantasies - F208 Endearments Old & New by Carol Costello

Other Hapsburg Lace Designs

HAPSBURG LACE SCISSORS CASE

This scissors case is for 3 1/2 inch long by 1 3/4 inch wide embroidery scissors such as Gingher embroidery scissors and case can be worked by beginner to advanced embroiderers, if you enjoy counted thread such as cross-stitch you will enjoy working the scissors case.

The scissors case is worked using pearl cottons on an 18 count mono canvas. In the example opposite white pearl cottons have been embroidered onto 18 count natural coloured mono canvas.

Lacy Hapsburg lace stitches are worked leaving spaces between the patterns for ribbons to be inserted. Beads are sewn down to emphasize some areas of the case. Each pattern is charted out and explained in detail how it is worked.

This case looks great using any coloured mono canvas with a contrasting pearl cotton colour, I offer natural (brown) or antique blue canvas (see bookmark below for antique blue canvas) in my kit with white pearl cotton and a light blue ribbon.

If you purchase the instruction booklet alone you can choose your own colour canvas and contrasting pearl cotton thread (more than one colour can be used) and different colour cord to give your case a unique look. If you dislike French knots, beads have proven to be an appealing substitute (to the embroiderer and the admirer), the choice is yours.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

HAPSBURG BOOKMARK / MINI SAMPLER

This bookmark can be worked by beginner to advanced embroiderers, if you enjoy counted thread such as cross-stitch you will enjoy working the bookmark.

The bookmark is worked using pearl cottons on an 18 count mono canvas. In the example opposite white pearl cottons have been embroidered onto 18 count antique blue mono canvas.

The lacy stitches are worked in rows, taking care not to cross the threads over open holes at the back of the canvas because the lacy effect would be lost. Ribbons are inserted between some rows of the Hapsburg lace patterns to give a touch of colour. Each pattern is charted out and explained in detail how it is worked.

The bookmark looks great using any coloured mono canvas with a contrasting pearl cotton colour, I offer antique blue or natural (brown) canvas (see the sampler for the natural brown colour) in my kit with white pearl cotton and pale blue and pale pink ribbons.

If you purchase the instruction booklet alone you can choose your own colour canvas and contrasting pearl cotton thread (more than one colour can be used) and different colour ribbon and beads to give your bookmark a unique look.
