BEGINNERS GUIDE TO GOLDWORK

Soft back, 80 pages, written by Ruth Chamberlain and published by Search Press.

This book gives some good advice on how to prepare fabric for goldwork.

The techniques illustrated in the book are off the sampler featured on the front page of the book, and there are some great photographs on how to do couching down silk threads and Japan threads over string and in the method of Or Nue and other techniques, it is a good reference book and there is a nice use of colour with the gold threads.

The sampler is not featured as a whole but in parts.

I have most of the metal threads required to work the projects in the book which can be purchased from my Goldwork Supplies webpage.

BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO SILK SHADING

Soft back book, 48 pages, written by Clare Hanham (trained at the Royal School of Needlework) and published by Search Press

An easy guide to needle painting. There are photograph stages of the long and short stitch on flowers, leaves and a butterfly with instructions.

You will get a better understanding of the needle painting (silk shading) technique from one of my needle painting kits as there are diagrams and more detailed instructions but it is a good book to have photograph stages of an embroidery which you would not get from my needle painting instruction booklets.

To try one of my needle painting kits visit the following page of my website: Needle Painting Kits
