Some lovely floral designs are given as projects in the book, this is a great book to get you started on crewel embroidery.

This book is a collection of original crewel designs of museum quality, created by artist Frances Bradbury for other artists and crafts people.

Designs are for crewel / Jacobean embroidery which is free embroidery on a a closely woven fabric such as Jacobean linen twill fabric. Designs include Jacobean tree style floral designs with birds, insects and some figures.

These copyright-free images can be photocopied, enlarged or traced for personal use in any creative field.

A very Comprehensive Embroidery technique book produced by the Royal School of Needlework where I took my three year training in hand embroidery - apprenticeship course and spent a further two years in the workroom. See my Personal History for more details.

Recommended for all embroiderers. The book has sixteen step-by-step projects ranging from easy to hard in four embroidery techniques.

It is a valuable source of reference and a beautiful book for the needle crafter's library.

This book is great accompaniment for any of my embroidery techniques.

History of the

Royal School of Needlework

Founded in 1872 by Queen Victoria's third daughter, Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, the school enjoys the patronage of members of the Royal Family. H.M. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, is the School's current Patron and its President is H.R.H. the Duchess of Glouchester. The Royal School of Needlework specializes in the restoration and conservation of all textiles using traditional hand embroidery techniques.

The School's main objective is to ensure that the traditional skills of hand embroidery are passed on to the next generation.

As well as short courses in a variety of needlework techniques, they run an apprenticeship scheme and a one year certification course that attracts keen embroiderers from all over the country and abroad.
