"Once I started, I could not put this piece down! The colours are so pretty, and it worked up quite quickly (instant gratification!). I enjoyed learning the various embellishment and applique techniques, especially the pin stitch which very effectively holds the organza pieces down but also provides a lovely finished edge. As with all of Tanja's designs, the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Thank you for your lovely design!" Andrea Laturnas in Saskatchewan, Canada

1. Fuchsia worked winter 2004 2. Flight of a Butterfly worked winter 2005 3. Peacock worked winter 2006 4. Kingfisher worked winter 2008 "Granddad has always found it amazing how it is possible to get so many different patterns out of, what is principally a square grid. He appreciates 'pure' blackwork very much and will sometimes leave out the couching and trimmings so the design remains more 'traditional'. He found the butterfly the most complicated and yet so very rewarding, the clean lines of this design and the lace-like detail is fabulous. The Peacock is maybe the favourite though (and mine too) as it's a very full design and yet so very elegant. Granddad was 87 this Feb (2008) and is not sure if he'll be able to do another black work project (you do need a lot of eye-power!) but he has thoroughly enjoyed your designs Tanja - thank you!" "His has been named 'Pee' and he hangs at the bottom of the stairs, in the hallway. He is either a flirt or a spy as he winks or stares when the light catches his eye. Every one who sees him is quite taken by his "eye movement". I am so pleased he cannot talk. He was a delight to work and I will enjoy him in his own quiet way." Sharon Gray in Manitoba, Canada

"I have always loved anything lacy and of course when I saw the Hapsburg Lace sampler on Tanja's website, I fell in love with it immediately and just had to stitch it. This project was very difficult to put down as it was just so much fun to go from one pattern to the next. Adding those beautiful ribbons to some of those patterns almost made me feel that it was real lace in front of me" Pierrette Pattyn from Tennessee, USA Pierrette has a Blog on the internet with her embroidery projects.

Modern Jacobean: Bird of Paradise
"I am new to this type of needlework and found the design of the Bird of Paradise both challenging and inspiring. I enjoyed learning the 20 different stitches which make up the design and have been inspired to use some of these stitches on my other needlework projects. Tanja is very patient when teaching each new stitch and often gave individual instruction for the more complicated stitches. The Bird of Paradise is framed and hangs proudly in our home. I am looking forward to doing more Tanja Berlin creations." Mary Roberston in Ontario, Canada

Needle Painting Flower: Bingo Clear Purple Pansy
"I had been wanting to learn how to do needle painting properly and thought what a better place than to start with a kit from Tanja Berlin and I picked Clear Purple Pansy for my first learning experience. The instructions were very clear and it was a lot of fun to stitch. Next project on my list is the little maple leaf and then I will move to more difficult projects. Needle painting is a beautiful embroidery technique and when done properly, it gives such a realistic view of a flower, animal or whatever you have been stitching." Pierrette Pattyn from Tennessee, USA Pierrette has a Blog on the internet with her embroidery projects.

Baby Burrowing Owl worked by Ekaterina Ozerova in New Jersey, USA Ekaterina worked the Baby Burrowing Owl from the A-Z of Thread Painting Book. She personalized her embroidery by changing the grass and adding dandelions which bring out the colour in the owls eyes. Adding flowers to bird and animal embroideries is a great idea. I design most of my embroideries to be taught over two days which means that regretfully I have to miss out flowers from some designs as there is not enough time to teach the animal and flowers in two days. Please feel free to adapt any of my needle painting designs to suit your taste as Ekaterina did. Baby Burrowing Owl Featured in the A-Z of Thread Painting Book |
