Needle Painting Flower: Bingo Clear Purple Pansy

"This picture doesn't pay tribute to the delicate colours of silk threads and to the realistic effect due to Tanja's know-how. The high quality of instructions made this little work, a real happiness to achieve"

Embroidered by Christine Guillemain in France

Clear Purple Pansy Kit with DMC Floss

Needle Painting Flower: Bingo Clear Purple Pansy

"I had been wanting to learn how to do needle painting properly and thought what a better place than to start with a kit from Tanja Berlin and I picked Clear Purple Pansy for my first learning experience. The instructions were very clear and it was a lot of fun to stitch. Next project on my list is the little maple leaf and then I will  move to more difficult projects. Needle painting is a beautiful embroidery technique and when done properly, it gives such a realistic view of a flower, animal or whatever you have been stitching."

"I loved stitching the pansy and was very pleased with the end result. Tanja's instructions are very detailed but easily understood and she seems to answer all your questions before you have asked them. The feed back you get from Tanja is excellent and if you do email her she answers very quickly. So treat yourself and have ago"

"I have enjoyed stitching the pansy, as I wanted to frame the flower, I thought it would be neat to stitch three flowers and have them framed together, each in its own cathedral window, with the inner mat highlighting the darkest shade/tone of each colour. The large mat is similar in colour to the fabric so does not take away from the colours of each pansy, the frame itself takes on the darker green of the leaves"

Needle Painting Flower: Iris

DMC Stranded Cotton

Wool Yarn

"Your detail booklet has greatly enhanced my understanding of thread placement and color blending (of the threads) as I stitched.   The high quality photo of an actual size stitched design and the direction diagram of the booklet were extremely helpful as I followed your instructions.

The one photo shows the Iris worked in the kit's provided DMC stranded cotton floss. The other stitched Iris is worked using Renaissance Dyeing Wool and Fine d'Aubusson wool yarn.

For the wool Iris I replaced the French Knots of the stamens with turkey work stitch.  When snipped off and fluffed I feel the turkey work stitch look closer to an actual beard of an Iris.  I finished the floss one this morning, consider trying turkey work for the stamen but went with French knots.

Many thanks again for your design and the detail instructions, also thanks for the midway viewing of my photos as I worked these two, your comments were quite helpful."

"This piece was taken at a class in Olds, AB.   Tanja's teaching skills and her detailed instructions were my introduction to the technique of needlepainting.  I was struck by how much artistry can be achieved with embroidering with single strands of DMC cotton.  The technique appeals to me for its  economy and simplicity.  Because there are over 400 shades of DMC thread available, there can be very subtle shading effects achieved in needlepainting.  Thanks Tanja, for all the wonderful instruction, and for being a great member of our Calgary Guild!"

"I am enamored with the maple leaf.

Because the maple leaf is centred on our flag?

Perhaps.  I really like this one because the colours are  like themaple leaves found on the prairies.

It was a delight to work."

The choice of so many all from beginners to more advanced is truly wonderful."

"The Long and Short stitch had been my Waterloo for many decades. I just never seemed to be able to understand the process and make my stitches resemble anything like the samples shown, no matter how many teachers I “learned” under and how many books I read. After taking Tanja’s classes in “Eastern Bluebird on a Blossom Branch,” and “Wild Rose” however, I finally feel confident about correctly making this most beautiful stitch in the embroidery repertoire. Her instructions are so clear, and the diagrams so detailed, that it is impossible to fail if one follows them. It doesn’t hurt that Tanja is a fun teacher, as well as a most beautiful stitcher herself, so the classes are extremely enjoyable and stress-free."
