FLOWERS,
BUTTERFLIES AND CANADIAN FLAG
The
Tulip and the Iris are a fun simple shadow work project that can be
worked as a mini project in an embroiderers group.
Working the embroidery: The
Shadow Work stitch is a simple backstitch worked on the front of the
work
alternating back and forth along two lines that are parallel to each other
(bands), on the back of the work herringbone is
created by the stitches crossing from one edge of the
band to the other. The herringbone shows through the fabric
at the front of the work as an opaque band. The ends of the threads
are easily finished off in the stitches at the back of the work
so that they do not show up obviously in the embroidery. Each
design can be displayed in a card window mat or in a clear
perspex key ring (please see the pictures on the left and below).
Each of these frames can be purchased separately below and mounting
instructions are included in the booklet.
The
instructions includes diagrams for working the herringbone stitch
and finishing ends and an enlarged picture of the back of the
embroidery so you can see how the herringbone stitch lays. I
also explain how to mount the embroidery can be mounted so that the
embroidery can be displayed from both sides.
