Scissors Case Design by Beppy Berlin, Center Border Motif from Fancy Work & Fantasies - F208 Endearments Old & New by Carol Costello

HAPSBURG LACE SCISSORS CASE

This scissors case is for 3 1/2 inch long by 1 3/4 inch wide embroidery scissors such as Gingher embroidery scissors and case can be worked by beginner to advanced embroiderers, if you enjoy counted thread such as cross-stitch you will enjoy working the scissors case.

The scissors case is worked using pearl cottons on an 18 count mono canvas. In the example opposite white pearl cottons have been embroidered onto 18 count natural coloured mono canvas.

Lacy Hapsburg lace stitches are worked leaving spaces between the patterns for ribbons to be inserted. Beads are sewn down to emphasize some areas of the case. Each pattern is charted out and explained in detail how it is worked.

This case looks great using any coloured mono canvas with a contrasting pearl cotton colour, I offer natural (brown) or antique blue canvas (see bookmark below for antique blue canvas) in my kit with white pearl cotton and a light blue ribbon.

If you purchase the instruction booklet alone you can choose your own colour canvas and contrasting pearl cotton thread (more than one colour can be used) and different colour cord to give your case a unique look. If you dislike French knots, beads have proven to be an appealing substitute (to the embroiderer and the admirer), the choice is yours.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

HAPSBURG BOOKMARK / MINI SAMPLER

This bookmark can be worked by beginner to advanced embroiderers, if you enjoy counted thread such as cross-stitch you will enjoy working the bookmark.

The bookmark is worked using pearl cottons on an 18 count mono canvas. In the example opposite white pearl cottons have been embroidered onto 18 count antique blue mono canvas.

The lacy stitches are worked in rows, taking care not to cross the threads over open holes at the back of the canvas because the lacy effect would be lost. Ribbons are inserted between some rows of the Hapsburg lace patterns to give a touch of colour. Each pattern is charted out and explained in detail how it is worked.

The bookmark looks great using any coloured mono canvas with a contrasting pearl cotton colour, I offer antique blue or natural (brown) canvas (see the sampler for the natural brown colour) in my kit with white pearl cotton and pale blue and pale pink ribbons.

If you purchase the instruction booklet alone you can choose your own colour canvas and contrasting pearl cotton thread (more than one colour can be used) and different colour ribbon and beads to give your bookmark a unique look.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

Tulip Front

Tulip Back

Iris Front

Iris Back

FLOWERS, BUTTERFLIES AND CANADIAN FLAG

The Tulip and the Iris are a fun simple shadow work project that can be worked as a mini project in an embroiderers group.

Working the embroidery: The Shadow Work stitch is a simple backstitch worked on the front of the work alternating back and forth along two lines that are parallel to each other (bands), on the back of the work herringbone is created by the stitches crossing from one edge of the band to the other. The herringbone shows through the fabric at the front of the work as an opaque band. The ends of the threads are easily finished off in the stitches at the back of the work so that they do not show up obviously in the embroidery. Each design can be displayed in a card window mat  or in a clear perspex key ring (please see the pictures on the left and below). Each of these frames can be purchased separately below and mounting instructions are included in the booklet.

The instructions includes diagrams for working the herringbone stitch and finishing ends and an enlarged picture of the back of the embroidery so you can see how the herringbone stitch lays. I also explain how to mount the embroidery can be mounted so that the embroidery can be displayed from both sides.

I am offering free email correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.
