You have a good angle to the stitches, just keep them a bit closer together, there is a slight space between the last short stitch and the long stitch at the top and bottom of the row. At the bottom of the row the space between the two long stitches is bigger than a stitch width apart, you can add a 3/4 length stitch in these two spaces that I have drawn on your picture. Please post a picture when you finished section 1a.
