Yes I think main issue you have is just the spacing of your stitches, you should keep them close together. You are getting better as I am drawing on less stitches now.
I think you may have got confused on the 2nd row of long and short stitch at the top of their head because you took the stitches in the 2nd row down on the design line between row one and row two and not down to the bottom design line. I have drawn onto your picture where you can add some stitches in row 2 on the head.
When you have added the stitches you are good to go on to the next row.
