You have done an excellent job around the eye and on the throat of the bird, well done.
Yes I do eye ball the pupil, but there are some good instructions in the PDF file that you should read before you start, about positioning the stitches. You may not get it right the first time so don’t get discouraged.
If you need to take out stitches, do it from the back of the embroidery because the needle could damage the white satin stitch of the eye if you do it from the front.
If the black thread for the pupil becomes worn then start over.
