Belfast linen fabric has 32 threads to the inch and is 100% linen. The fabric measures 55 inches wide.

The fabric has a natural look as the threads of the fabric are not even.

Experienced embroiderers love the look of linen fabric as it does not have the orderliness of even weave fabric giving the embroidery a romantic rustic look.

Why Call it Blackwork? book is my favourite blackwork book for choosing designs for my blackwork projects.
Marion gives excellent tips and instructions for design inspiration, choice of patterns, shading, how to transfer a design and 14 pages of Blackwork patterns with about 18 designs on each page. It is a very valuable book if you are inspired to create your own designs.

These very fine tip tweezers are excellent tools for a wide range of embroidery purposes and is the tool that I use the most for hand embroidery.

They make great unpicking tools to grab those tiny threads your finger nails just can’t keep a hold of.
They are also a vital tool for Goldwork embroidery to hold, position and to manipulate metal threads.

Needles – Tapestry

Tapestry needles have a blunt end to the point of the needle and is used for counted thread embroidery because the point of the needle does not catch or pierce the threads of the counted fabric when working from one hole to the next. The tapestry needle has a long eye for easier threading.

The needles I supply range from size 20 being the largest to size 28 being the finest. I  use the No. 24 Tapestry needles in my Hapsburg Lace kits and the No. 26 and No. 28 Tapestry needles in my blackwork kits.

Wire needle threaders are for all sizes of needles but are most useful for fine needles as it enables you to thread the really small eyed needles easier.
The metal wire loop of the needle threader is threaded into the eye of the needle (much easier than threading in a strand of thread), the thread is then threaded into the wire loop of the threader and then the wire loop and embroidery thread are pulled back through the eye of the needle, the thread is now threaded into the needle.
