Recommended Supplies
Needles – Crewel Embroidery
Embroidery or crewel needles have a long eye for easier threading, a slender shaft and a sharp point to the needle so that the stitches can be worked close together and there is more control for the placement of the stitches.
The needles can be used for surface embroidery and sewing.
Crewel/embroidery needles are not suitable for counted thread work as the point of the needle would easily catch the threads of the fabric, distorting the counted work.
Size 10 are my choice needles for fine surface embroidery in which only one single strand of silk thread or embroidery cotton is used.
For very fine embroidery. when only using a single strand of fine thread or for sewing down No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 gold purl threads use size 12 crewel embroidery.

Bohin Transfer Pencil
The Bohin transfer pencil is a mechanical pencil that comes with white and grey 0.9 mm lead. A mechanical pencil is the best type of pencil to use to draw design lines onto fabric as the lead keeps a consistent sharp nib. This pencil is perfect to use with the prick and pounce transfer method.

Stretcher Bar Frames
Stretcher bars are inexpensive wooden embroidery frames in which the fabric can be pulled really tight. The end of the bars have teeth that you slot together to form a frame at any size that you require for your needlework. I recommend the stretcher bar frames to work my hand embroidery kits in because they are very quick to assemble and the fabric stays taught in the frame.
I highly recommend purchasing the brass thumb tacks which are stronger and sharper than office supplies thumb tacks or quilters thumb tacks.
Please visit the following webpage for instructions on how to assemble a stretcher bar frame and choosing the right size for your needlework: Stretcher Bar Frames Information

The Blackwork Fuchsia design is an intermediate design in my blackwork art embroidery kits.
The fuchsia is a counted form of hand embroidery in which interesting blackwork patterns are worked on the flower.
Dimension is achieved by changing the thickness of the embroidery thread and the density of the pattern, creating a realistic design. Gold thread is used to highlight areas of the design.

Fine White Work Pear and Magnolia Kit
The beautiful fine embroidery of the Pear and Magnolia and insects is created by stitching three layers of fabric (two layers of shadow linen with a layer of net sandwiched in-between) are sewn together with embroidery stitches. When all the embroidery has been worked layers of linen are cut away from the back or the front of the work.
This will leave some areas with two layers of fabric, some with one layer of fabric and some with just net creating a dimensional look to the embroidery. On the single layer of fabric pulled-work stitches are worked, in the net areas net stitches are worked.
