Berlin Embroidery Designs – Tanja Berlin
Hi Jill
For the cracks on the branch split between 2 millimeters in 3 millimeters back in the stitch, make the split stitches about 6 millimeters. I will change the instructions where I put half an inch to a quarter of an inch thanks for pointing this out.
The stitches don’t have to be all the same length they just have to stay on the pencil design line, on curves the stitches can be a bit shorter to keep the shape of the line and the stitches can be a bit longer on straight lines.
If the stitches are split too close to the end of the stitch it makes a jagged, uneven line. If you go further than 3 millimeters into the stitch you get a thick line, which is okay it’s better than a jagged line.
When I worked the second line of split stitch against the first line of split stitch on the cracks, I did not split the first line of split stitch with the second line, I just stitched it next to the first line. You could post a picture in your pictures topic of your split stitch crackc so I can check.
