Classes In Person
Day and Weekend Classes in Hand Embroidery
If you are interested in taking a class from me or coming to teach to your group please email me with the techniques you are interested in and I will email you PDF files with pictures and class descriptions and costs.
I offer the tropical flower for all levels of stitches and the tropical bird for advanced level stitches.
The embroidery is worked on silk fabric using Au Ver a Soie, Soie D’alger silk thread in two sided satin stitch, padded satin stitch and stem stitch. The bird also has 2-sided fly stitch and buttonhole stitch.
The design comes on the fabric so the student can start stitching immediately.
This is a fun class in which the student will learn how to execute the stitches so that the back looks the same as the front and how to start and end a thread so that it is invisible.

The Small Blackwork Butterfly is a one day class.
In the class the student will transfer the outline of the design onto 28 count fabric using the tissue paper transfer method and then work six blackwork patterns in sections on the butterfly.
The student will get to work a portion of each pattern in the class which they can complete at home.

I have several blackwork designs that I teach in a two day class. All of the designs are my art blackwork designs in which the blackwork patterns are shaded by changing the density of the pattern or the thickness of the thread to create a realistic effect.
At the beginning of the class the student will transfer the design onto the fabric using the tissue paper transfer method and then work blackwork patterns in sections of the design. The student will work a portion of each pattern and will complete the design at home.
I have blackwork designs ranging from beginners to advanced. In a group class I can teach four different designs in the same class. The student will work on the design of their choice so I can teach beginners, intermediate and advanced students in the same class.
The blackwork horses can be worked on 16 count or 32 count fabric, all the other designs are worked on either 28 count or 32 count fabric.
Below is the level of each design, visit the blackwork kits webpage for the cost of the kits:

In this one day class the student can make a pendant in metal thread embroidery. Visit the Jewelry Kits webpage for the price of the kits.
All the pieces of jewelry are made in the same method which is couching down different colours of pearl purl (coiled metal thread) on a black felt background. In a few spaces between the lines of pearl purl are different colours of couched metal purl threads (soft metal beads).
One piece of jewelry takes 4 – 6 hours to stitch so some students will be able to complete their piece of jewelry by the end of the day.

Needle painting also known as thread painting and long and short stitch is the most realistic form of surface embroidery which is worked in staggered straight stitches in a single strand of DMC embroidery cotton on a closely woven fabric, blending rows of colour to create the very realistic embroideries.
Other embroidery stitches on the designs are split stitch, stem stitch, satin stitch and some of the designs have chain stitch and French knots.
In the class I will demonstrate and explain the technique in detail so that the student goes home with a thorough understanding of the technique.
The design comes on the fabric so the student can start stitching immediately.
I have designs ranging from beginners to advanced. In a group class I can teach two different designs in the same class. The student will work on the design of their choice so I can teach beginners to advanced students in the same class. I suggest that students who are not very fast at stitching or are new to long and short stitch work a beginners design.
