2-Sided Embroidery: One Day Class

2-Sided Kits
Tropical Flower 2-Sided Embroidery Kit
Tropical Bird 2-Sided Embroidery Kit
Tropical Bird 2-Sided Embroidery Kit

I offer the tropical flower for all levels of stitches and the tropical bird for advanced level stitches.

The embroidery is worked on silk fabric using Au Ver a Soie, Soie D’alger silk thread in two sided satin stitch, padded satin stitch and stem stitch. The bird also has 2-sided fly stitch and buttonhole stitch.

The design comes on the fabric so the student can start stitching immediately.

This is a fun class in which the student will learn how to execute the stitches so that the back looks the same as the front and how to start and end a thread so that it is invisible.

I have several blackwork designs that I teach in a two day class. All of the designs are my art blackwork designs in which the blackwork patterns are shaded by changing the density of the pattern or the thickness of the thread to create a realistic effect.

At the beginning of the class the student will transfer the design onto the fabric using the tissue paper transfer method and then work blackwork patterns in sections of the design. The student will work a portion of each pattern and will complete the design at home.

I have blackwork designs ranging from beginners to advanced. In a group class I can teach four different designs in the same class. The student will work on the design of their choice so I can teach beginners, intermediate and advanced students in the same class.

The blackwork horses can be worked on 16 count or 32 count fabric, all the other designs are worked on either 28 count or 32 count fabric.

Below is the level of each design, visit the blackwork kits webpage for the cost of the kits:

Carrickmacross Lace: One Day or Two Day Class

Carrickmacross Lace Sampler
Carrickmacross Lace Sampler
Carrickmacross Lace Kits

I designed the Carrickmacross Lace Sampler specifically for learning the technique. The technique is slow to stitch so it is better to learn on small samples than on a large piece.

The Carrickmacross Lace Sampler can be taught over one or two days. The student will learn the different techniques in Carrickmacross lace and with the techniques there are lots of different methods to work the pretty and delicate white medallion samples. The samples can be displayed in a two sided glass frame or against a colour background.

In this one day class the student can make a pendant or brooch in metal thread embroidery. Visit the Jewelry Kits webpage for the price of the kits.

All the pieces of jewelry are made in the same method which is couching down different colours of pearl purl (coiled metal thread) on a black felt background. In a few spaces between the lines of pearl purl are different colours of couched metal purl threads (soft metal beads).

One piece of jewelry takes 4 – 6 hours to stitch so some students will be able to complete their piece of jewelry by the end of the day.

The design comes on the fabric so the student can start stitching immediately.

In the class I will demonstrate and explain the technique in detail so that the student goes home with a thorough understanding of the technique.

Shadow Work: 1/2 Day Class – 1 Day Class

In the class the student will trace the design onto organza fabric, then the embroidery is worked in bands of herringbone stitch.

I have discovered that the easiest method to stitch the herringbone stitch bands is from the front of the work by working back-stitch alternating back and fourth along two lines that are parallel to each other. The herringbone stitch is created on the back of the fabric when you switch back and fourth across the band and creates a shadow of colour through the organza fabric making this a double sided embroidery.
