I use the same method as Sarah where I take my parked needle and thread back down the same hole in the fabric, it can be done on the southern Belle Muslim fabric and the silk fabric if you pull the needle tightly to one side it makes the hole bit bigger so you can see where to take it down. It does not always work, but when it does it is quicker than having to re-thread the needle.

You do need to position the parked needle and thread on the outside edge of the frame or in the body of the bird, as the southern Belle Muslin fabric or silk fabric can mark because the fibers of the thread get stuck in the hole of the fabric so you do need to park the needle in an area which will get covered with embroidery or on the outside of the framing area.

I have to park the needle and thread on top of the work as I get in a tangle but some people are dexterous whilst stitching and can leave the needle at the back of the work.
