Needles – Blackwork
My blackwork kits come with two tapestry needles. If you choose a kit with 14 and 16 count fabric you will be provided with one size 24 (largest) and one size 26. If you choose a kit with 28 count or 32 count fabric you will be provided with one size 26 and one size 28 (smallest). You have the option to purchase more needles in case you loose a needle.

The Swan Reflections design is intricate in places so might be challenging for beginners. The design is worked from a chart and has a detailed instruction booklet which has step-by-step numbered diagrams and instructions to guide you through the blackwork patterns.
This is a fun design to pass away some time.
The design looks great in colour and variegated embroidery thread if you are not partial to black. Approximately 8 meters of a 6 strand embroidery thread is required for the embroidery.
You can work the design on any size fabric. The original embroidery was worked on 32 count fabric over two threads of the fabric but you can work the embroidery on and a bigger count such as 14 or 16 count fabric and working the stitches over one thread of the fabric instead of two.

- 14 Count Fabric: 10 1/2 inches (26 1/4 cm) high by 7 1/4 inches (18 1/4 cm) wide
- 16 Count Fabric: 9 inches (23 cm) high by 6 1/4 inches (16 cm) wide

Tropical Bird
The Tropical Bird is a 2-sided hand embroidery technique. The design is worked in surface embroidery stitches on a silk Dupioni fabric using Au Ver A Soie, Soie D’alger silk thread.
In the kit I provide a detailed instruction booklet with 19 pages of step-by-step diagrams and instructions on how to work each stitch which are reversible so that the back looks the same as the front.

Jacobean Tree with Bird Kit – Discontinued
The Jacobean Tree with Bird is an advanced crewel surface embroidery technique. I am discontinuing this kit.
If you are new to the technique you may want to try a smaller design first as this design is large and will take some time to stitch.
The design uses traditional Jacobean motifs and is stitched in 14 traditional Jacobean colours in Appleton crewel wool on traditional linen twill fabric. The design comes printed on the fabric so you do not have to be concerned about transferring the design yourself.
There are 22 surface embroidery stitches worked on in a single strand of the crewel wool on natural colour traditional Jacobean linen twill fabric.

The design is inspired by traditional Jacobean tree motifs but on a smaller scale and incorporates modern materials such as silk ground fabric, cotton threads, metallic thread, organza fabrics and kid leather.

Goldwork Phoenix Kit
The Goldwork Phoenix design is a combination of metal thread and counted thread embroidery.
The design is worked on black 25 count Lugana fabric. First a tacked outline of the design is transferred onto the fabric, then the flames are worked in simple blackwork pattern in 4 shades of metallic threads and outlined in pearl purl.
The wings and tail feathers of the Phoenix are worked in 15 different types of metal threads in shades of gold, copper and pewter.
