The size 10 crewel embroidery needle is used in my surface embroidery kits such as: Carrickmacross Lace, Fine White Work, Goldwork, Modern Jacobean, Needle Painting and Shadow Work.
My kits come with two needles but you may want to purchase more of the needles as size 10 embroidery/crewel needles, in case you mislay your needle as the size 10 crewel embroidery needles can be hard to find in craft stores as they are smaller than regular sewing needles.
I also carry the size 12 crewel embroidery needles. I often use these for sewing down purl threads in goldwork or if I am working a very fine needle painting design.

9 Inch or 10 inch Stretcher Bar Frames and Thumb Tacks
I recommend the stretcher bar frame to work my hand embroidery kit in because the frame is quick to assemble and the fabric stays taught in the frame. The frame comes with brass thumb tacks and a tack remover. The frame can be used over and over so if you purchase more than one of my kits you can use the same frame. Needle Threaders
Wire needle threaders are for all sizes of needles but are most useful for fine needles as it enables you to thread the really small eyed needles easier.
The metal wire loop of the needle threader is threaded into the eye of the needle (much easier than threading in a strand of thread), the thread is then threaded into the wire loop of the threader and then the wire loop and embroidery thread are pulled back through the eye of the needle, the thread is now threaded into the needle.
Needle Threaders
Wire needle threaders are for all sizes of needles but are most useful for fine needles as it enables you to thread the really small eyed needles easier.

The Red Fox is worked in needle painting also known as thread painting and long and short stitch. This is the most realistic form of surface embroidery which is worked in staggered straight stitches in a single strand of embroidery thread on a closely woven fabric, blending rows of colour to create a very realistic embroidery. The sheen of the threads adds to the soft and life like effect of the fur.

The fabric comes with the design printed on so you do not have to be concerned about transferring the design yourself and the DMC embroidery cotton threads come on numbered thread templates so you know exactly which colour to use on the embroidery. There are 12 DMC cotton thread colours used in the embroidery.
In the kit I provide a detailed instruction booklet with 22 pages of step-by-step diagrams and instructions. The PDF files combined with the instructions will give you a well rounded learning in the technique but the PDF files are not essential to work the Red Fox.
3 PDF Lessons with Colour Work-in-Progress Photos and Instructions: The 3 PDF files are emailed and the kit with instructions are mailed……sorry I do not email the instruction booklet for the red fox.
PDF #1 has 29 pages and covers transferring the design and the grey chest of the fox.
PDF #2 has 28 pages and covers the back of the head and ears.
PDF #3 has 30 pages and covers the face of the fox.
Needle painting can be challenging so I suggest learning the technique from one of my kits rather than from a book as you get much more instructions in my kit rather than a book which usually only has a few pages of instructions for one design.
