Needle Threaders
Wire needle threaders are for all sizes of needles but are most useful for fine needles as it enables you to thread the really small eyed needles easier.
The metal wire loop of the needle threader is threaded into the eye of the needle (much easier than threading in a strand of thread), the thread is then threaded into the wire loop of the threader and then the wire loop and embroidery thread are pulled back through the eye of the needle, the thread is now threaded into the needle.

Needles – Crewel Embroidery
Embroidery or crewel needles have a long eye for easier threading, a slender shaft and a sharp point to the needle so that the stitches can be worked close together and there is more control for the placement of the stitches.
The needles can be used for surface embroidery and sewing.
Crewel/embroidery needles are not suitable for counted thread work as the point of the needle would easily catch the threads of the fabric, distorting the counted work.
Size 10 are my choice needles for fine surface embroidery in which only one single strand of silk thread or embroidery cotton is used.
For very fine embroidery. when only using a single strand of fine thread or for sewing down No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 gold purl threads use size 12 crewel embroidery.

This wonderful fine quality muslin fabric has a 200 thread count (regular muslin fabric thread count starts at 70) and makes an ideal ground fabric for needle painting and other forms of surface embroidery. I use the southern belle fabric in my needle painting kits.
The warp and weft threads are closely woven allowing for very precise stitching. The fabric is smooth to the feel, has no brown specks or slubs as in some muslins and has a very consistent weave unlike some broad cloths. There is very little stretch to the fabric so when pulled tight in a stretcher bar frame the fabric does not easily pucker.

Stretcher Bar Frames
Stretcher bars are inexpensive wooden embroidery frames in which the fabric can be pulled really tight. The end of the bars have teeth that you slot together to form a frame at any size that you require for your needlework. I recommend the stretcher bar frames to work my hand embroidery kits in because they are very quick to assemble and the fabric stays taught in the frame.
I highly recommend purchasing the brass thumb tacks which are stronger and sharper than office supplies thumb tacks or quilters thumb tacks.
Please visit the following webpage for instructions on how to assemble a stretcher bar frame and choosing the right size for your needlework: Stretcher Bar Frames Information

Fabric Eraser
The fabric eraser is useful for surface embroidery when you use a pencil to draw your design lines onto fabric.
If you by mistake draw the line in the incorrect position, use the fabric eraser to remove the pencil line.
The pencil line may not completely erase so still take care when drawing design lines on your fabric.
I find the eraser useful especially when drawing on the direction guide lines on my needle painting designs and sometimes draw the guide lines on at the wrong angle and need to remove them.

Scissors: Super Snips – Great for Travel
The super snips embroidery scissors are super cute and practical. The scissors have sharp little blades with an attached silicone blade protector, which hangs away from the blades when using the scissors and can easily be put back over the blades when not in use.
They are great to use with the retractable scissors holder as the silicone blade protector will keep your clothes from being snagged by the blades or sticking into your body.
These scissors are ideal for travelling and visiting as they are safe to use and inexpensive in case they get misplaced.

Needles – Beading
I carry the hard to find short beading needles which are excellent for goldwork embroidery when the size 10 embroidery/crewel needle will not fit through the center of purl or bullion threads. The needles are also good for very fine needle painting/thread painting. The needles are 1 1/4 inch ( 3 1/4 cm) long. The beading needles have a long slender eye for easier threading and a choice of sharp point or tapestry (ball) point. I carry size 10 and size 12 (finest).
I also carry regular long beading needles for your beading needs which are 2 inches (5 cm) long.

Needles – Size 12 Crewel Embroidery (Bag of 15 John James)
The size 12 crewel embroidery needle can be used for fine surface embroidery techniques where one single strand of embroidery thread is used such as needle painting, goldwork and fine white work.
The needle has a long eye and a slender shaft and a sharp point to the needle so that the stitches can be worked close together and there is more control for the placement of the stitches.
I recommend using the size 12 crewel embroidery needles for sewing down down No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 gold purl threads as the purl threads are a very narrow gold tube that other needles may not fit through.
