Bohin Transfer Pencil
The Bohin transfer pencil is a mechanical pencil that comes with white and grey 0.9 mm lead. A mechanical pencil is the best type of pencil to use to draw design lines onto fabric as the lead keeps a consistent sharp nib. This pencil is perfect to use with the prick and pounce transfer method.

Fabric – Muslin Southern Belle
The Southern Belle muslin fabric (Calico in European terms) is a 100% cotton fabric and is light cream in colour.
This wonderful fine quality muslin fabric has a 200 thread count (regular muslin fabric thread count starts at 70) and no flecks, specks and slubs which is common in muslin fabric, it has a very clean look. It makes an ideal ground fabric for needle painting and other forms of surface embroidery. I use the southern belle fabric in my needle painting kits. It can be used as extra support behind the ground fabric when working goldwork and as a backing fabric for silk fabric.
Width of the Fabric: 44 inches (110 cm)

Transfer Pencil – Chalk
The blue chalk pencil is used to transfer a design from tracing paper to fabric.
Trace your design onto the velum tracing paper. Note that the design will be reversed when you iron the design onto the fabric.
Place the tracing paper with the design down against the cotton fabric and then iron evenly along the back of the tracing paper, applying firm pressure for about 6 to 8 pass-overs.
When you lift the tracing paper off the fabric you are left with a blue outline of your design. The transfer is permanent.
Tool – Pricker: Steel
The steel pricker is used to prick the lines on the velum tracing paper for the transfer method of prick and pounce. An embroidery needle is screwed into the end of the pricker and takes sizes No. 9 and No. 10 Crewel Needles.

Fabric Eraser
The fabric eraser is useful for surface embroidery when you use a pencil to draw your design lines onto fabric.
If you by mistake draw the line in the incorrect position, use the fabric eraser to remove the pencil line.
The pencil line may not completely erase so still take care when drawing design lines on your fabric.
I find the eraser useful especially when drawing on the direction guide lines on my needle painting designs and sometimes draw the guide lines on at the wrong angle and need to remove them.
