The Blackwork Fuchsia design is an intermediate design in my blackwork art embroidery kits.
The fuchsia is a counted form of hand embroidery in which interesting blackwork patterns are worked on the flower. Dimension is achieved by changing the thickness of the embroidery thread and the density of the pattern, creating a realistic design. Gold thread is used to highlight areas of the design.

The Bohin transfer pencil is a mechanical pencil that comes with white and grey 0.9 mm lead. A mechanical pencil is the best type of pencil to use to draw design lines onto fabric as the lead keeps a consistent sharp nib. This pencil is perfect to use with the prick and pounce transfer method.

Needles – Blackwork
My blackwork kits come with two tapestry needles. If you choose a kit with 14 and 16 count fabric you will be provided with one size 24 (largest) and one size 26. If you choose a kit with 28 count or 32 count fabric you will be provided with one size 26 and one size 28 (smallest). You have the option to purchase more needles in case you loose a needle.

Tweezers – Tooltron Rainbow Tweezers, Fine Tipped
The fine tip, small, tweezers are excellent tools for a wide range of purposes such as hand embroidery, beading and sewing. The tweezers make a great unpicking tools to grab those tiny threads your finger nails just can’t keep a hold of and easy to pinch closed.
The tweezers are a vital tool for Goldwork embroidery to hold, position and to manipulate metal threads and because they are small they are useful for intricate embroidery projects.

The Blackwork Fuchsia design is an intermediate design in my blackwork art embroidery kits. The fuchsia is a counted form of hand embroidery in which interesting blackwork patterns are worked on the flower. Dimension is achieved by changing the thickness of the embroidery thread and the density of the pattern, creating a realistic design. Gold thread is used to highlight areas of the design.
There are 20 pages of detailed instructions with step-by-step numbered patterns to guide you through the embroidery. You have a choice of working the design from a full chart or in the tissue paper transfer method, my recommendation is to work the horse in the tissue paper transfer method as if you make a mistake it does not throw off the whole pattern and it is easier to correct the mistake.
You will transfer the outline of the design onto the counted fabric in the tissue paper transfer method by tracing the outline onto a piece of tissue paper, pinning the tissue paper to the fabric and then working a basting stitch (tacked line) along all the design lines. The tissue paper is ripped away leaving tacked design lines on the fabric and then you work the blackwork patterns with-in the tacked design lines. The tacking is removed once the embroidery is complete.
This is a much more fun and easier method than working the pattern directly from a set chart as there is more versatility where each pattern can be worked so is less complicated to work. Each blackwork fuchsia embroidery will come out slightly different making the fuchsia unique to you and you will have a piece of stitched art that you you will be proud of.

The fuchsia is not intended to be worked on 14 or 16 count Aida, so you should be able to count on 28 count or 32 count fabric. A stitching light and magnification are an asset to work the embroidery. If you are not sure if the technique is for you, you could try the Introductory to Blackwork -Small Blackwork Butterfly first which is quicker and easier to work.

Description of Fabric Types:
The count of a fabric is the amount of threads there are per inch of the fabric.
- 28 Count Lugana: 52% cotton and 48% Rayon. The fabric has even weave threads (all threads are the same thickness). The patterns come out more even on the even weave fabric compared to the linen fabric.
- 28 Count Cashel Linen: 100% Linen. The fabric has uneven weave threads (threads are different thicknesses) giving a natural loo
