Blackwork Horse – Haflinger Breed
Blackwork Horse – Haflinger Breed
$7.52 – $31.60 USD
The Blackwork Horse – Haflinger Breed is a beginners blackwork design.
Blackwork is a counted form of hand embroidery in which interesting blackwork patterns are worked on the horse and then areas outlined with stem stitch. You have a choice of working the design from a full chart or in the tissue paper transfer method, instructions for both are in the detailed instruction booklet.
In the kit I provide a detailed instruction booklet with 18 pages of step-by-step diagrams and instructions on how to work the tacking, each blackwork pattern and the outlines on the horse.

My recommendation is to work the horse in the tissue paper transfer method as if you make a mistake it does not throw off the whole pattern and it is easier to correct the mistake.
Once you receive the kit you will transfer the outline of the design onto the counted fabric by tracing the outline onto a piece of tissue paper, pinning the tissue paper to the fabric and then working a basting stitch (tacked line) along all the design lines. The tissue paper is ripped away leaving tacked design lines on the fabric and then you work the blackwork patterns with-in the tacked design lines. The tacking is removed once the embroidery is complete.
This is a much more fun and easier method than working the pattern directly from a set chart as there is more versatility where each pattern can be worked so is less complicated to work. Each blackwork horse will come out slightly different making the horse unique to you and you will have a piece of stitched art that you you will be proud of.https://berlinembroidery.com/product/blackwork-horse-haflinger-breed/

The horse can be worked on 14 or 16 or 28 count or 32 count fabric. A stitching light and magnification are an asset to work the embroidery.
I am offering free on-going critique with this kit…..you can email me at any time if you have questions or would like me to critique your embroidery.
Description of Fabric Types:
The count of a fabric is the amount of threads there are per inch of the fabric. The more threads there are per inch the harder it will be to see the holes in the fabric. The 28 and 32 count fabrics have a softer feel and look compared to the 14 and 16 count Aida fabric
- 14 Count and 16 Count Aida Fabric: 100% Cotton. The fabric has even weave threads (all threads are the same thickness). 14 count is the easiest fabric to count for absolute beginners in counted embroidery or for those who have difficulties seeing 28 or 32 count fabric.
- 28 Count Lugana: 52% cotton and 48% Rayon. The fabric has even weave threads (all threads are the same thickness). The patterns come out more even on the even weave fabric compared to the linen fabric.
- 28 Count Cashel Linen: 100% Linen. The fabric has uneven weave threads (threads are different thicknesses) giving a natural look.
- 32 Count Lugana: 52% cotton and 48% Rayon. The fabric has even weave threads (all threads are the same thickness). The patterns come out more even on the even weave fabric compared to the linen fabric.
- 32 Count Belfast Linen: 100% Linen. The fabric has uneven weave threads (threads are different thicknesses) giving a natural look.
