Mellor
A mellor also known as a mellore or melor is a perfectly manufactured tool for metal thread embroidery.
The mellor is made out a soft smooth metal that is not abrasive.
The narrower end is used as a stiletto to widen a hole in the ground fabric to plunge a heavy twisted cord or metal thread to the back.
The round end is used to nudge and push metal threads into position and is gentler on the metal threads than using tweezers as the mellor has been polished and has smooth rounded edges so less likely to damage the metal thread.

My kits come with two needles but you may want to purchase more of the needles as size 10 embroidery/crewel needles, in case you mislay your needle as the size 10 crewel embroidery needles can be hard to find in craft stores as they are smaller than regular sewing needles.

The kit comes with an instruction booklet and with a PDF file with colour work-in-progress pictures of the entire stitching process on the brooch which is 16 pages long and with over 60 colour work-in-progress pictures for making the brooch.
The brooch is a multi purpose piece of Jewelry as when it is not being worn it can be displayed in a 4 inch picture frame as a piece of art.
The embroidery is worked by sewing down strands of pearl purl which is a coiled metal thread, the stitches are hidden in the coils of the thread. In-between the lines of pearl purl are sections of black and violet soft metal beads.
The finished brooch can be painted with a clear non-yellowing varnish so it does not tarnish.
I provide a detailed instruction booklet in the kit with step-by-step diagrams and instructions on how to work the brooch. The PDF file combined with the instructions will give you a well rounded learning in the technique but the PDF file is not essential to work the brooch.
The last picture in the picture gallery shows an example of one of the pages of the PDF File with the work-in-progress pictures for making the brooch.
