The Goldwork Still Life is an intermediate design.
The embroidery is worked on a cream silk dupioni fabric and the design is drawn on the fabric, so you do not have to worry about transferring the design yourself.
The pineapple is padded with felt and crochet cotton and then gold embroidery threads sewn over top. The grapes, cherries and leaves are worked in silk threads in surface embroidery stitches.

Needles – Size 10 or 12 Crewel Embroidery
The size 10 crewel embroidery needle is used in my surface embroidery kits such as: Carrickmacross Lace, Fine White Work, Goldwork, Modern Jacobean, Needle Painting and Shadow Work.
My kits come with two needles but you may want to purchase more of the needles as size 10 embroidery/crewel needles, in case you mislay your needle as the size 10 crewel embroidery needles can be hard to find in craft stores as they are smaller than regular sewing needles.
I also carry the size 12 crewel embroidery needles. I often use these for sewing down purl threads in goldwork or if I am working a very fine needle painting design.

I carry the hard to find short beading needles which are excellent for goldwork embroidery when the size 10 embroidery/crewel needle will not fit through the center of purl or bullion threads. The needles are also good for very fine needle painting/thread painting. The needles are 1 1/4 inch ( 3 1/4 cm) long. The beading needles have a long slender eye for easier threading and a choice of sharp point or tapestry (ball) point. I carry size 12 (finest).
The size 12 short sharp beading needles are equivalent to the size 12 crewel embroidery needles.
I also carry (regular) long beading needles for your beading needs which are 2 inches (5 cm) long.

The 100% beeswax small rose is used to coat sewing thread when working metal thread/goldwork embroidery and is a perfect size to work two or three of my goldwork designs.

A goldwork and beading pad is a brilliant piece of Velux/velvet like fabric which you can use to place goldwork threads on and cut them and place spangles and beads on so they will stay in one place rather than skidding across a table surface when working with them.

In the kit i provide a detailed instruction booklet with 22 pages of step-by-step diagrams and instructions on each technique on the goldwork design.
Techniques and Threads Worked on the Still Life Design:
- Padding: Areas of the design are padded with felt and crochet cotton.
- Pineapple Body: The scales on the pineapple are worked by couching down Japan thread and sewing down a bead and spangle in the center and outlined in pearl purl. The area around the scales are worked in French knots in silk thread. The pineapple is outlined in Milliary wire.
- Pineapple Leaves: The leaves are worked by sewing down soft gold beads in bright check, rough and smooth purl over crochet cotton padding.
- Grapes, Cherries and Leaves: The grapes, cherries and leaves are worked in satin stitch in silk threads.
Each of my goldwork designs have different metal thread techniques so doing one design doesn’t necessarily prepare you for another design. Each design is unique making for a new stitching experience each time.

Metal threads tarnish as the metals are copper based under a gold plating and oxidize over time when exposed to light and the elements. Display the embroidery in a dark location with no direct natural or artificial light to slow down the rate of tarnishing.

Brooch – Metal Thread Brooch Kit
The Metal Thread Brooch is a beginners project.
The embroidery is worked by sewing down strands of pearl purl which is a coiled metal thread, the stitches are hidden in the coils of the thread. In-between the lines of pearl purl are sections of gold soft metal beads.
I have also included a brooch pattern and brooch pin in case you prefer to work a pendant instead of a brooch.

Goldwork Phoenix Kit
The Goldwork Phoenix design is a combination of metal thread and counted thread embroidery.
The design is worked on black 25 count Lugana fabric. First a tacked outline of the design is transferred onto the fabric, then the flames are worked in simple blackwork pattern in 4 shades of metallic threads and outlined in pearl purl.
The wings and tail feathers of the Phoenix are worked in 15 different types of metal threads in shades of gold, copper and pewter.

Apple Blossoms
The Apple Blossoms are a 2-sided hand embroidery technique. The design is worked in surface embroidery stitches on a taffeta fabric using DMC No. 8 Perle cotton thread. In the kit there are two apple blossom designs and two pieces of taffeta fabric so that you can work both designs.
