SPECTRAL
BUTTERFLY
The Butterfly is for
all levels of embroiderers, instructions have been featured in the
November 2006 Embroidery magazine by Inspirations.
The Spectral
Butterfly is worked in blackwork patterns on a 32 count fabric using
DMC floss, YLI silk thread, Gold Super Pearl Purl, Copper No. 1 Twist
and Silver Spangles.
Working the embroidery: The blackwork
embroidery is worked within a tacked outline of the
design with a variety of different blackwork stitches.
A three dimensional picture is created by changing the thickness
of the thread and by reducing the
stitches in the pattern. I have introduced gold and
copper metal threads to outline the wings, legs and feelers and
spangles to highlight the wings. A large chart is included with the
instruction booklet as a reference tool but the embroidery is worked
in the Tissue
Paper Transfer Method.
The patterns are stitched from step-by-step individual diagrams and
there are detailed instructions on how to work the embroidery.
The
Embroidery can be worked in an alternative colour to black and be
very effective.
I
am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this
kit, for more details go to - Free
on going critique.
There
is a choice of fabrics to work the blackwork design:
-
32
count antique white Monika fabric (50% cotton and 50% Modal). The
fabric has even weave threads (all threads are the same thickness)
and is soft and smooth to the touch. The patterns come out more even
on the even weave fabric compared to the linen fabric.
-
32
count antique white Belfast 100% Linen fabric with uneven weave
threads (different thicknesses) giving a natural look.
-
28
count antique white Jobelan fabric (51% cotton and 49% Rayon) or 28
count antique white Lugana fabric (52% cotton and 48% Rayon). The
fabric has even weave threads (all threads are the same thickness).
The patterns come out more even on the even weave fabric compared to
the linen fabric.
-
28
count antique white Cashel 100% Linen fabric with uneven weave
threads (different thicknesses) giving a natural look.
