FIELD MOUSE

The Field Mouse is an intermediate to advanced needle painting technique. For a complete explanation of the technique and relative difficulty of the embroidery Click Here!.

The Field Mouse has detailed instructions and lots of diagrams to guide your through the embroidery. The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design and the threads come wrapped on a long floss bobbin and numbered so you know exactly which colour to use.

Working the embroidery: The Mouse is worked in a single strand of DMC embroidery floss in the needle at one time, embroidering the design in straight stitches. These stitches are either long and short or are all the same length but alternate in positions so that the colours blend together.

I recommend working one of the flower embroideries first to gain some experience in the long and short technique. The result will be a better looking mouse.

If you have any questions as you are working the embroidery you can email me at any time and I will be happy to help you. I am offering free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

Grizzly Bear

Colour Guide Diagram

The diagram above shows the Grizzly broken down into sections for each colour used. The colour of the thread used is written in each section.

Stitch Direction Diagram

The diagram above shows the direction in which the stitches will be worked represented by the dotted line.

Order Diagram

The diagram above shows the order in which the rows of long and short stitch are worked on the bear.

EXAMPLE OF A NEEDLE PAINTING KIT

My kits come with an Instruction Booklet approximately 12 - 27 pages long and with approximately 20 - 85 diagrams depending on the difficulty of the embroidery. The instructions are very comprehensive and are intended to guide any level of stitcher through the embroidery with out external help. I try to include the answers to all the common questions and problems that have been encountered in this technique.

The kits also include a piece of fabric with the design hand drawn, needle and a range of DMC embroidery cottons that are numbered on a template so you do not have to guess which colour you need to use.

Opposite and below are examples of diagrams that you will see when you purchase one of the needle painting kits.

The diagrams shown are just a few that are included in the Grizzly Bear instructions. The Grizzly Bear has 27 pages of instructions and 84 diagrams. This is not because the embroidery is particularly hard to stitch, I just like to make the instructions very easy to follow so that the embroidery can be worked from the kit alone and a class is not required.

For each stage of the embroidery there are step by step diagrams and clear instructions to work the stage. Typical stitches used in a needle painting kit are long and short stitch, split stitch and satin stitch.

Long and Short Stitch on the Neck

The embroidery is broken down into stages for you with pictures of each stage. Below is just one picture showing the stitching on the ears, in the instructions there are six diagrams showing how to stitch the ears with lots of instructions. There is also a diagram for each row of long and short stitch that is worked on the body.

If English is not your first language, the diagrams in the instructions should be enough to guide you through the embroidery.

Long and Short Stitch - on the Ears, Face and Muzzle.

From the diagrams in the instructions the embroiderer can see the direction in which the stitches should be worked and how the long and short stitch splits the stitches of the previous rows.

Even small areas such as the eye, ears and nose have diagrams and instructions to guide you through the area.

Eye, Ear and Nose - Just three examples of the many diagrams in the instructions for teach stage of the embroidery.

The instructions guides the embroiderer through many aspects of needle painting, a few of the important aspects are detailed below:

  1. The proper way of starting and ending threads.

  2. Instructions to guide you through the embroidery in a certain order to create a 3-dimensional picture.

  3. How to work long and short stitch so that the stitches blend beautifully creating a realistic picture.

The techniques learnt in the different needle painting instructions can be applied to making your own designs or aide in working other peoples designs. The instructions for the Grizzly Bear is particularly useful if you plan to stitch your own dog or cat.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for all my embroidery kits, for more details go to - Free on going critique.
