Needle Threaders
Wire needle threaders are for all sizes of needles but are most useful for fine needles as it enables you to thread the really small eyed needles easier.
The metal wire loop of the needle threader is threaded into the eye of the needle (much easier than threading in a strand of thread), the thread is then threaded into the wire loop of the threader and then the wire loop and embroidery thread are pulled back through the eye of the needle, the thread is now threaded into the needle.

The size 10 crewel embroidery needle is used in my surface embroidery kits such as: Carrickmacross Lace, Fine White Work, Goldwork, Modern Jacobean, Needle Painting and Shadow Work.
My kits come with two needles but you may want to purchase more of the needles as size 10 embroidery/crewel needles, in case you mislay your needle as the size 10 crewel embroidery needles can be hard to find in craft stores as they are smaller than regular sewing needles.
I also carry the size 12 crewel embroidery needles. I often use these for sewing down purl threads in goldwork or if I am working a very fine needle painting design.

The Morning Glories is a Level 3: Advanced of my Further Education kits in which you have the option of purchasing the 3 PDF files with colour work-in-progress pictures of the entire stitching process on my morning glories that I provide when I run my on-line classes.
The Morning Glories is worked in needle painting also known as thread painting and long and short stitch. This is the most realistic form of surface embroidery which is worked in staggered straight stitches in a single strand of embroidery thread on a closely woven fabric, blending rows of colour to create a very realistic embroidery. The sheen of the threads adds to the soft effect of the petals.

The fabric comes with the design printed on so you do not have to be concerned about transferring the design yourself and the DMC embroidery cotton threads come on a numbered thread template so you know exactly which colour to use on the embroidery. There are 15 DMC cotton thread colours used in the embroidery.
In the kit I provide a detailed instruction booklet with 25 pages of step-by-step diagrams and instructions. The 3 PDF files combined with the instructions will give you a well rounded learning in the technique but the PDF files are not essential to work the morning glories.
The last few pictures in the picture gallery show some of the pages in the PDF files.
PDF #1 has 36 pages, PDF #2 has 30 pages and PDF #3 has 34 pages of pictures and instructions.The 3 PDF files are emailed and the kit with instructions are mailed……sorry I do not email the instruction booklet for the morning glories.
Needle painting can be challenging so I suggest learning the technique from one of my kits rather than from a book as you get much more instructions in my kit rather than a book which usually only has a few pages of instructions for one design.

The fuchsia is a counted form of hand embroidery in which interesting blackwork patterns are worked on the flower. Dimension is achieved by changing the thickness of the embroidery thread and the density of the pattern, creating a realistic design. Gold thread is used to highlight areas of the design.

The Portuguese Whitework book is a fabulous book on an unusual technique.
Portuguese whitework is worked on 38 count linen with No. 8 Perle Cotton and it incorporates drawn/overcast bars, eyelets and surface embroidery stitches such as bullions, stem stitch and padded satin stitch. The book contains easy-to-follow step-by-step stitch instructions and some beautiful projects. There are small projects such as hanging ornaments to big projects such as table clothes.
