PANSIES

All three Pansy needle painting embroidery kits are for beginner embroiderers. For a complete explanation of the technique Click Here!.

All the Pansy kits have detailed instructions and lots of diagrams to guide your through the embroidery.  The diagrams are very clear and detailed showing how the stitches are worked on each area of the design and guiding you step by step through the embroidery from the beginning  to the end.  The diagrams are also drawn specifically for each pansy embroidery and there are no generalized diagrams.

The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design and the threads come wrapped on a long floss bobbin and numbered so you know exactly which colour to use.

Working the embroidery: Each Pansy embroidery is worked in a single strand of the DMC floss or Needle Point Silk Thread in the needle at one time, embroidering the design in straight stitches. These stitches are either long and short or are all the same length but alternate in positions so that the colours blend together. The long and short technique is explained in detail in the kit instruction booklet.

This technique will give an embroiderer good practice in the long and short technique, gaining the skills the embroiderer needs to tackle the more advanced needle painting projects i.e. the field mouse and the birds.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

The Purple Icicle Pansy is periodically offered as an on-line class with colour work-in-progress picture or the kit can be purchased seperately from the on-line class. If the class is not running your can purchase the PDF with the colour work-in-progress pictures for the pansy seperately.

EMBROIDERY SIZE

Height: 4 inches (10 cm)     Width: 2 3/4 inches (6 3/4 cm)

I give a choice of working the pansies in two different ways.

  1. The pansy design drawn on to a good quality 100% cotton muslin fabric and provided with DMC embroidery floss. (Muslin fabric is an excellent ground fabric to work the needle painting embroidery on as you are less likely to get a run in the fabric or the fabric pucker).

  2. The Pansy design drawn onto silk fabric and provided with Needlepoint silk threads. (Use the highest quality fabric and threads).

Purple Pansy Kit and 3 PDF File Lessons with Colour Work-in-Progress Pictures

There is no on-line class scheduled for the Purple Pansy but you can purchase the on-line class PDF files with the kit to help you stitch the embroidery on your own.

The purple pansy kit has detailed instructions and lots of diagrams to guide your through the embroidery.  The diagrams are very clear and detailed showing how the stitches are worked on each area of the design and guiding you step by step through the embroidery from the beginning  to the end. The colour work work-in-progress pictures of the pansy show you exactly what the embroidery should look like at each stage of the embroidery.

The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design and the threads come wrapped on a long thread bobbin and numbered so you know exactly which colour to use.

The Pansy embroidery is worked in a single strand of the DMC cotton (floss) in the needle at one time, embroidering the design in straight stitches. These stitches are either long and short or are all the same length but alternate in positions so that the colours blend together. The long and short technique is explained in detail in the kit instruction booklet.

The kit and instructions are sent by mail and the 3 PDF files with colour work-in-progress pictures are sent by email.

Iris

Colour Guide Diagram

The diagram above shows the iris broken down into sections for each colour used. The colour of the thread used is written in each section.

Stitch Direction and Order Diagram

The diagram above shows the direction in which the stitches will be worked represented by the dotted line and the order in which to work the Iris.

EXAMPLE OF A NEEDLE PAINTING KIT

My kits come with an Instruction Booklet approximately 12 - 27 pages long and with approximately 20 - 85 diagrams depending on the difficulty of the embroidery. The instructions are very comprehensive and are intended to guide any level of stitcher through the embroidery with out external help. I try to include the answers to all the common questions and problems that have been encountered in this technique.

The kits also include a piece of fabric with the design hand drawn, needle and a range of DMC embroidery cottons that are numbered on a template so you do not have to guess which colour you need to use.

Opposite and below are examples of diagrams that you will see when you purchase one of the needle painting kits.

The diagrams shown are just a few that are included in the Iris instructions. The Iris has 19 pages of instructions and 62 diagrams. This is not because the embroidery is particularly hard to stitch, I just like to make the instructions very easy to follow so that the embroidery can be worked from the kit alone and a class is not required.

For each stage of the embroidery there are step by step diagrams and clear instructions to work the stage. Typical stitches used in a needle painting kit are long and short stitch, split stitch and satin stitch.

Leaves - Split stitch, Stem Leaves - Satin Stitch and Split Stitch, Bud - Satin Stitch

The embroidery is broken down into stages for you with pictures of each stage. From the diagrams in the instructions the embroiderer can see the direction in which the stitches should be worked and how the long and short stitch splits the stitches of the previous rows.

If English is not your first language, the diagrams in the instructions should be enough to guide you through the embroidery.

Petals - Long and Short Stitch

The instructions guides the embroiderer through many aspects of needle painting, a few of the important aspects are detailed below:

  1. The proper way of starting and ending threads.

  2. Instructions to guide you through the embroidery in a certain order to create a 3-dimensional picture.

  3. How to work long and short stitch so that the stitches blend beautifully creating a realistic picture.

The techniques learnt in the different needle painting instructions can be applied to making your own designs or aide in working other peoples designs. The Iris embroidery is a great design to develop your skills in long and short stitch.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for all my embroidery kits, for more details go to - Free on going critique.
