Fabric – Linen Cashel 28 Count
Cashel linen fabric has 28 threads of fabric to the inch and is 100% linen. The fabric has a natural look as the threads of the fabric are not even.
Experienced embroiderers love the look of linen fabric as it does not have the orderliness of even weave fabric giving the embroidery a romantic rustic look.

Needles – Crewel Embroidery
Embroidery or crewel needles have a long eye for easier threading, a slender shaft and a sharp point to the needle so that the stitches can be worked close together and there is more control for the placement of the stitches.
The needles can be used for surface embroidery and sewing.
Crewel/embroidery needles are not suitable for counted thread work as the point of the needle would easily catch the threads of the fabric, distorting the counted work.
Size 10 are my choice needles for fine surface embroidery in which only one single strand of silk thread or embroidery cotton is used.
For very fine embroidery. when only using a single strand of fine thread or for sewing down No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 gold purl threads use size 12 crewel embroidery.

Magnifiers – Magni-clips
The magni-clips are magnifiers that clip onto the bridge of your glasses, they can be flipped up when not in use and put down over your glasses for close up work.
The magni-clips are light weight and rimless so as not to distract from your stitching. Excellent for all types of hand embroidery and close up work.
If you do not know the magnification that you require I suggest trying out different reading glasses over your current glasses to find out the magnification that you require.

The blades of the scissors are sharp for a clean cut and slightly curved to get a closer cut.

Kid Leather
The smooth kid leather has a metallic shiny surface except the “Copper Head” which has a matte surface. The kid leather is fairly stiff and is not appropriate for molding over very dimensional surfaces.
The wrinkled surface kid leathers come in gold, silver and pewter. They are slightly softer than the smooth surface leather and more mold-able.

Lugana fabric is a blend of 52% cotton and 48% rayon. I have a choice of 28 count antique white and 25 count black. Lugana fabric is 55 inches wide.
The fabric has even weave threads so that stitches/patterns will work out more regular than on an uneven weave such as linen fabric. It has a nice smooth and firm surface so that when the embroidery is complete the viewer sees the embroidery and is not distracted by the fabric.
