The Marguerite can be worked in gold, silver or copper metal threads on a cotton velveteen fabric. Areas of the design are padded with felt and crochet cotton and the metal embroidery threads sewn over top.

Needles – Beading
I carry the hard to find short beading needles which are excellent for goldwork embroidery when the size 10 embroidery/crewel needle will not fit through the center of purl or bullion threads. The needles are also good for very fine needle painting/thread painting. The needles are 1 1/4 inch ( 3 1/4 cm) long. The beading needles have a long slender eye for easier threading and a choice of sharp point or tapestry (ball) point. I carry size 12 (finest).
The size 12 short sharp beading needles are equivalent to the size 12 crewel embroidery needles.
I also carry (regular) long beading needles for your beading needs which are 2 inches (5 cm) long.

A goldwork and beading pad is a brilliant piece of Velux/velvet like fabric which you can use to place goldwork threads on and cut them and place spangles and beads on so they will stay in one place rather than skidding across a table surface when working with them.

Techniques and Threads Worked on the Marguerite Design:
- Padding: Areas of the design are padded with felt and crochet cotton.
- Leaves: The leaves are worked by couching down rows of twist with a green thread.
- Stems: The stems are worked in lines of couched down Japan thread.
- Daisy Head: The petals on the head of the daisy are worked by sewing down soft gold beads such as bright check, rough and smooth purl over crochet cotton padding.
- Outlines: The petals on the daisy are outlined with pearl purl.
Each of my goldwork designs have different metal thread techniques so doing one design doesn’t necessarily prepare you for another design. Each design is unique making for a new stitching experience each time.

Metal threads tarnish as the metals are copper based and oxidize over time when exposed to light and the elements. Display the embroidery in a dark location with no direct natural or artificial light to slow down the rate of tarnishing.
