Fine White Work Mountains

Fine White Work Mountains

$55.00 CAD

The Fine White Work Mountains is an intermediate design.

The beautiful fine embroidery is created by stitching three layers of fabric (two layers of shadow linen with a layer of net sandwiched in-between) are sewn together with embroidery stitches. When all the embroidery has been worked layers of linen are cut away from the back or the front of the work.

This will leave some areas with two layers of fabric, some with one layer of fabric and some with just net creating a dimensional look to the embroidery. On the single layer of fabric pulled-work stitches are worked, in the net areas net stitches are worked.

The instruction booklet that comes in the kit has lots of diagrams and detailed instructions to guide you through the embroidery. The instructions are written with the beginner in mind and intended to guide embroiderers of any level through the embroidery from beginning to end. The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design.

The embroidery can be mounted on a coloured background which shows up the density of the fabric layers and the white embroidery threads.

I am offering free on-going critique with this kit…..you can email me at any time if you have questions or would like me to critique your embroidery.

You will need to refer to the Carrickmacross Lace sampler instructions for how to work the particular stitches on the bee such as the starting and finishing the thread, couching, buttonhole bars, cutting and the picot edge.

The Mountmellick Corner Design is an Irish white work hand embroidery technique in which heavy white cotton threads are used to work surface embroidery stitches creating a floral design on a heavy cotton satin jean fabric, which has a smooth and slightly shiny surface. Traditionally the technique was used to decorate household coverings such as cushion covers and table cloths as the the fabric and threads are durable and can be boiled to be cleaned.

This is a great technique for any level of stitcher as the stitches are easy to work, there are 15 different surface embroidery stitches on the embroidery.

The lace hand embroidery scissors are highly recommended for needlework techniques that require precision cutting such as Carrickmacross Lace, Fine White Work, Hardanger and Drawn Thread.

The lace scissors enables you to get close to the edge of the area to be cut without snipping the fabric with the point of the scissors by mistake.

Shadow Work Forest

The Shadow Work Forest is an intermediate surface embroidery technique.

The shadow work embroidery is made up of bands of herringbone stitch at the back of the fabric that show through at the front as a shadow of colour. The technique was traditionally used for table coverings as the stitching was on the back of the work so that it was protected from being snagged/damaged.

I have designed my shadow work embroideries as pieces of art. The forest looks lovely mounted between two window mat boards and hung from the corners like a mobile so that both sides of the embroidery can be seen.
